I am a lifelong learner and I try my best to instill that in my students. I am committed to teaching, mentoring, and learning from diverse groups of students as well as encouraging and empowering students to conduct their own research and participate in service/community-based learning experiences. Diversity, creativity, empowerment, inclusiveness, and social justice are embedded in the courses I teach, the research I conduct, and the service work in which I participate.
I encourage students to engage, speak out, share their experiences, ask questions, take risks, and above all, respect one another and each other's differences in discussions and interactions. I promote difficult dialogues and crucial conversations in all of my courses and I have found it to be just as successful in online formats as it is in the traditional classroom setting. As a course developer and instructor, I demonstrate compassionate student support in all of my courses and I offer mentorship along with instruction. I strongly believe that I am not only teaching students, but I am also learning from them and they are learning from one another.
